Midfielder Stefano Sensi is still hoping for the chance to prove himself at Inter Milan next season.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the 27-year-old still wants to make his mark in the Nerazzurri’s first team, whilst the same is true of Valentino Lazaro though the latter is down in the pecking order.

Sensi is back at Inter after a season-long loan spell at Monza last campaign.

The 27-year-old had something of a mixed experience with the Brianzoli.

Sensi was out with an ankle injury for a couple months that disrupted his momentum. This has unfortunately been one of the major themes of the former Sassuolo midfielder’s career since joining Inter.

However, there were some bright spots, as the Italian international made a total of thirty appearances for the Lombard team.

At the end of the season, however, Sensi was not a regular in Raffaele Palladino’s starting eleven. Therefore, Monza declined to make Sensi’s loan deal permanent with a purchase option.

Stefano Sensi Still Wants To Be Part Of The Plans At Inter Milan

It has now been a season and a half since Sensi has played in an Inter shirt.

The Italian had spent the second half of the 2021-22 season on loan with Sampdoria. There, he was able to get more regular playing time.

Sensi had initially impressed after joining Inter from Sassuolo in the summer of 2019. That was before injuries became an unfortunate theme for him.

Current Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi has seemingly never fully trusted Sensi’s fitness, however.

Therefore, if Sensi is to convince Inzaghi, it will have to be with an outstanding preseason. And just as importantly, he will have to find a way to give Inzaghi and Inter reassurances about his durability on a physical level, no mean feat.

Inter are still trying to find one more midfielder for next season.

The Nerazzurri’s aim is to sign a young player with plenty of room to grow. That would be a different profile than Sensi.

However, the ex-Neroverdi man still hopes that he can convince Inter that he is their internal solution to give depth in midfield.

Valentino Lazaro Also Wants To Impress At Inter

Then, there’s Valentino Lazaro.

The Austrian joined Inter from Hertha Berlin in the summer of 2019, the same summer as Sensi.

However, Lazaro only played half a season in a Nerazzurri shirt. Otherwise, he has gone out on loan four times – to Newcastle United, Borussia Monchengladbach, Benfica, and Torino.

Tuttosport report that, like Sensi, Lazaro still wants to try and prove himself in an Inter shirt.

However, it would be even less likely than it would with Sensi.

The arrival of Juan Cuadrado means that there will be few opportunities on the right flank where Lazaro plays. Denzel Dumfries should also stay at the club.

Both Sensi and Lazaro see their contracts run out at the end of next June. Therefore, should they not stay then Inter will finally sell them permanently rather than send them out on another loan.
