Genoa are reportedly the favorites to sign Danilo D’Ambrosio who recently left Inter Milan as a free agent.

The 34-year-old was one of several Nerazzurri stars who saw out their contracts at the club. The list includes Milan Skriniar (who signed for Paris Saint-Germain), Roberto Gagliardini (Monza) and legendary captain Samir Handanovic.

For his part, D’Ambrosio remains unattached. But according to Sky Sport via FcInter1908, Genoa has emerged as the most concrete destination.

After spending a campaign in Serie B, the Grifone climbed their way back to the top flight after finishing as runner-ups behind Frosinone in Italy’s second tier.

The historic club is determined to re-establish itself as a Serie A mainstay, Therefore, the vastly experienced D’Ambrosio would be able to lend a hand.

D’Ambrosio started his career at Salernitana and then had stints with Fiorentina, Chievo Verona and Torino among others.

He eventually joined Inter in 2014 where he spent eight and half seasons. The Italian was originally a wingback who can play on both flanks.

But during his time with the Nerazzurri, he performed in a variety of roles, including fullback and centre-back. He also had a knack for scoring timely goals.
