Alexis Sanchez could well make a shock return to Inter Milan this summer after just one season away.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Coriere della Sera, via FCInterNews, who report that the 34-year-old could be a surprise attacking signing for the Nerazzurri after ending his time with Marseille in Ligue 1.

Sanchez left Inter last summer, ending a three-year stint at the San Siro.

The Chilean had certainly had an impact during his time at the Nerazzurri. He left a Serie A, Coppa Italia, and Supercoppa Italiana winner.

On the other hand, there were some rumblings of discontent. Particularly in his final season, the former Arsenal, Barcelona, and Manchester United forward hit out due to a relative lack of playing time.

However, the Nerazzurri ultimately decided to offload Sanchez due to his high wages, among other factors.

Sanchez made way for the return of Romelu Lukaku.

In the end, Inter agreed a termination of Sanchez’s contract by mutual consent. The ex-Gunners forward went on his way and joined Marseille.

Alexis Sanchez Could Make Surprise Return To Inter Milan

However, Sanchez’s time at Marseille has come to an end.

The 34-year-old’s deal with the Ligue 1 giants has expired at the end of last month. And, despite the fact that Sanchez had bagged 18 goals for the French club last summer, he will be on his way.

According to the Corriere della Sera, Sanchez could be a surprise attacking option for Inter next season.

The newspaper claim that coach Simone Inzaghi’s green light would be there for Sanchez to come back.

Everything would depend, however, on a departure of Joaquin Correa, who is linked with Saudi Pro League clubs.

If the Argentine does leave, then Inter will seek a relatively like-for-like replacement.

Sanchez might well prove to be an unexpected option in that respect, suggests the Corriere della Sera.

On the other hand, if Correa were to stay, then there would be no chance of Sanchez being Inter’s one last attacking signing of the summer.
