Inter Milan could move for Atalanta defender Merih Demiral late during the transfer window.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri could aim to get a move for the former Juventus and Sassuolo over the line during the second half of August.

Inter are currently looking to sign one more defender during the summer window.

The departures of Milan Skriniar and Danilo D’Ambrosio mean that the Nerazzurri have only Matteo Darmian in the squad as a player used to playing on the right side of the back three.

There is no question that Inter will sign a defender before the window closes.

However, so far, no new signings have arrived.

The Nerazzurri looked to be close to signing Cesar Azpilicueta from Chelsea. However, the Spaniard favoured a move to Atletico Madrid.

Atalanta defender Rafael Toloi has also emerged as a potential target for the role.

However, according to Sky, La Dea have made clear that they have no intention of selling the 32-year-old.

That does not mean, though, that Inter won’t sign a player from Atalanta.

Inter Milan Could Make Late Swoop For Merih Demiral

One player who La Dea certainly won’t stand in the way of leaving is Demiral.

The 25-year-old Turkish international has fallen out of favour after a conflict with coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

Demiral had already been on Inter’s radar during the January transfer window.

At the time, it had looked as though Skriniar could leave for Paris Saint-Germain. However, Skriniar stayed put and so did Demiral.

But with Skriniar gone, the Nerazzurri do need a replacement.

Demiral could be a stylistically similar profile to the former Sampdoria player.

So far this summer, Inter have not made a move to sign Demiral.

However, Sky reports, they are keeping the Turk in mind as an option. And, as they get closer to deadline day without making a signing in the position, they could very well decide to go for it.
