Former Juventus, Roma, Sampdoria, and Porto coach Luigi Delneri feels that Inter Milan deserved to win the Champions League final against Man City.
Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, the coach also named the Nerazzurri as favourites to win the Serie A title next season.
Inter’s 2022-23 season came to an exciting, but ultimately heartbreaking conclusion.
The Nerazzurri booked themselves a place in Europe’s biggest club match, the Champions League final.
Few people expected them to get this far.
And even then, Inter went into the final with many regarding them as huge rank outsiders to Manchester City.
The final result did see the favourites prevail – the Cityzens won the match by a 1-0 scoreline after a second-half Rodri goal.
However, the manner of the performance was not as one-sided as many predicted it would be. Inter did not simply sit back and try to counterattack in the first half, as they prevented Pep Guardiola’s team from looking like the steamroller they often do.
Then, in the second, Inter had a flurry of chances after the Cityzens went up.
Perhaps it will come as little consolation for the Nerazzurri who have to deal with the disappointment of missing out on the trophy after coming so close.
But for Delneri, it’s something that Inter deserve plenty of credit for.

Delneri gave the view that “Inter deserved to win against Manchester City.”
“Simone Inzaghi stunned Pep Guardiola with a perfect tactical approach,” he continued.
And regarding next season’s Serie A title race, Delneri said that “I see Inter as favourites.’
“Dzeko and Lukaku have left, but Lautaro has taken more responsibility, and Frattesi’s a great midfielder,” he said.
Delneri argued that “lnThe Champions League final instilled greater confidence and belief in Inter, and I think they’ll have greater commitment in the league.”
