Inter Milan could move for an out-and-out Number Nine this summer, but likely only if Joaquin Correa leaves.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that a departure of Correa would likely be necessary for the Nerazzurri to go after another striker in addition to Arsenal’s Folarin Balogun.

With the Gianluca Scamacca option having evaporated, Inter are having to re-evaluate their transfer strategy once again.

The Italian had been something of a consensus pick for the Nerazzurri.

Scamacca fulfilled coach Inzaghi’s hope of an out-and-out Number Nine. However, aged 24, he would also be an investment for the future, something the club directors have insisted on.

With Scamacca out of the picture, Inter are now ready to focus on Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun.

The US international is the Nerazzurri directors’ top pick.

However, coach Inzaghi remains unconvinced. He still wants a tall, physical striker with a string presence in terms of holdup play rather than just a goalscorer like Balogun.

Inter Milan Could Still Give Inzaghi His Wish – But Only If Correa Leaves

According to the Gazzetta, the Nerazzurri directors have more or less won out, however.

Inzaghi has basically given them the green light to go after Balogun rather than a more traditional target man like Scamacca.

That hardly means that there’s a guarantee that the Nerazzurri will be successful in their pursuit, of course.

But, if Arsenal will accept a fee within Inter’s price range, they should be able to sign the American.

This does not, however, mean that there is no chance that a more out-and-out Number Nine won’t come in.

If Inter can offload out-of-favour forward Correa, there will be space in the squad.

Then, the Nerazzurri will certainly go after another forward before the end of the striker.

But, should Correa stick around, the club will go after Balogun in any event, and not a more physical striker.
