Young Inter Milan goalkeeper Filip Stankovic is happy about his imminent move to join Sampdoria on loan.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportItalia, via FCInterNews, the 21-year-old also suggested that as far as a possible future at the Nerazzurri is concerned, the only thing to do is to wait and see.

Stankovic is very close to joining Sampdoria on loan for next season.

Reports suggest that he’ll join on a one-season loan, with the Blucerchiati having a purchase option next summer. Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri will retain a buyback option.

Stankovic has enjoyed a solid preseason with Inter.

The Serb was in fact Inter’s first-choice keeper during their preseason tour of Japan. This was due to the fact that Yann Sommer and Emil Audero had not yet arrived to fill the shoes of the departed Andre Onana and Samir Handanovic.

Prior to this summer, Stankovic had been out on loan with Volendam for two seasons.

He joined when the Dutch side were in the Eerste Divisie, helping them achieve promotion to the Eredivisie.

Then, Stankovic was named as Volendam’s player of the season after they kept their top flight status.

Filip Stankovic Happy With Decision To Join Sampdoria On Loan

Joining Sampdoria will represent another big step for Stankovic.

The Serb has to date only played regular senior football in the Netherlands. Now, he returns to Italy for the first time at senior level.

Whilst Stankovic will be playing in the second division, there is little doubt about Sampdoria’s ambition to return to Serie A right away.

“I’m happy,” the young goalkeeper said of joining Sampdoria. “I know that this is a top club.”

“I can’t wait to get started,” he added.

As for Inter, where his father is a club legend, Stankovic said “Right now I’m just focused on Sampdoria. We’ll see what happens with Inter.”

Regarding the preseason with the Nerazzurri, the young keeper said that “It was a fantastic experience. I thank the coach and the club.”
