Inter Milan defender Francesco Acerbi will reportedly make his return from injury ahead of the club’s opening Serie A fixture against Monza.

The 35-year-old has recently sustained a muscular injury that is keeping him out of action.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport via FcInterNews, the veteran centre-back will miss the club’s last pre-season friendly against Egnatia.

The Nerazzurri will take on the Albanian club on Sunday. The kickoff is at 20:00 CET at the Paolo Mazza Stadium.

But the good news for the Beneamata is that Acerbi should be available for the significantly more important Serie A opener.

Simone Inzaghi’s men will host Monza at the Giuseppe Meazza on August 19 in the first round of the season.

Luckily for the Inter manager, he should have the vastly experienced defender at his disposal.

Acerbi joined Inter last season on loan from Lazio. This summer, the club make the switch permanent. The player signed a contract until 2025.

The Beneamata decided to keep the Italian international after cementing himself as a protagonist at the back last season.

Boost For Inter Milan As Francesco Acerbi Should Make His Return Against Monza

The former AC Milan and Sassuolo player usurped Stefan de Vrij to become Inzaghi’s first choice at the heart of the three-man defense.

Acerbi’s return will be a major boost for the Nerazzurri who are currently short of options at the back.

The club lost the services of Milan Skriniar and Danilo D’Ambrosio who joined PSG and Monza respectively on free transfers.

The Italian giants added young German defender Yann Bisseck to the fold. But they’re still looking for an additional signing at the back.
