Inter Milan continue their exhausting search for a new striker with Bologna veteran Marko Arnautovic reportedly gaining ground over Porto’s Mehdi Taremi.

Yesterday, the 34-year-old Austrian suddenly emerged as the latest name on Giuseppe Marotta’s ever-growing shortlist.

Earlier today, a report claimed that the Nerazzurri have dropped out of the race for Arsenal’s Folarin Balogun.

At the moment, it appears that Arnautovic and Taremi are the main options to bolster Simone Inzaghi’s attack.

Both stars would add an imposing physical presence in the penalty box. This is a feature that has been missing following the departures of Romelu Lukaku and Edin Dzeko at the end of last season.

But according to famous Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Inter Milan prefer the Austrian bomber over the Iranian international, mainly for financial reasons.

As the transfer market expert reveals, the Bologna star’s return to the Giuseppe Meazza is gaining steam.

The 34-year-old spent the 2009/10 campaign on loan at Inter Milan but failed to leave a mark.

Inter Milan Prefer To Sign Marko Arnautovic Over Mehdi Taremi As It Would Allow Them To Bolster Other Departments

As Di Marzio explains, Arnautovic would cost the Beneamata considerably less than Taremi.

Thus, the journalist believes that Inter Milan would be able to spend on a new defender or possibly a wingback by signing a low-cost striker like Arnautovic.

The report mentions Monza’s left-back Carlos Augusto as a transfer target that the Nerazzurri could still pursue in such a case.

However, the Italo-Brazilian’s arrival would only be plausible if the club manages to find a new home for Robin Gosens.
