The stalling Inter Milan move isn’t the first time Lazar Samardzic has been involved in transfer drama.

This according to Italian news outlet Calciomercato.com, who note that there was a not dissimilar story with Venezia two years ago.

The stalemate between Inter and the entourage of Udinese midfielder Samardzic has been one of the soap operas of the summer in Serie A.

The Nerazzurri expected that the 21-year-old would have joined days, even weeks ago. They have long had an agreement with his club Udinese hand on a transfer.

And, they thought, they had agreed personal terms as well. Samardzic went so far as to complete his medicals on the move late last week.

But the past few days have seen a baffling saga unfold, involving new demands from the player’s entourage.

Samardzic’s father has been a key figure in the story. Whilst reports vary somewhat, it has been widely reported that the Serb’s father made new financial demands at the eleventh hour before the transfer could go through.

This provoked an angry and stubborn reaction from Inter.

Inter Milan Not First Club To Run Into Problems With Lazar Samardzic & His Father

According to Calciomercato, however, another Italian club wont be too surprised with what’s happened due to Samardzic’s entourage.

Venezia, the outlet note, had also thought they were close to signing Samardzic once.

In the summer of 2021, the Venetian club were on the lookout for reinforcements for their first season back in Serie A. Then-19-year-old Samardzic represented an intriguing opportunity for them.

Venezia therefore negotiated with RB Leipzig to sign the young midfielder.

From the perspective of the Italians, the deal was close at hand. They were confident that they’d be able to wrap up the signing.

However, when Venezia went to discuss things with Samardzic’s father, they were in for a rude awakening.

As it turned out, the Serb’s father had negotiated a move to Udinese for his son. The Friulani made the move happen, from Venezia’s perspective right under their noses.

Now, Inter and Venezia could have something to commiserate about.

Both have had issues precisely with the unpredictability of Samardzic’s father, a man who evidently has a significant degree of control over his son’s future, but doesn’t always seem inclined to make his agenda clear until late in proceedings.
