Midfielder Stefano Sensi is looking increasingly likely to stay at Inter Milan next season.

This according to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInter1908, who report that the Nerazzurri are leaning more and more in the direction of keeping hold of the 28-year-old former Sassuolo midfielder if they cannot get a deal for Lazar Samardzic back on track.

Sensi has been back at Inter this summer after his loan at Monza came to an end.

The Italian international had a mixed season with the Brianzoli. He made a total of thirty appearances and put in a few standout performances.

However, Monza coach Raffaele Palladino opted to prioritize other options in midfield.

Therefore, Inter have been left considering what to do about Sensi’s future this summer.

The 28-year-old’s contract with the Nerazzurri runs out at the end of next June. Therefore, one thing Inter cannot do is simply send the player out on loan again, unless they are keen to lose him on a free transfer next summer.

Sensi Could Stay At Inter After All – Samardzic Deal A Key Factor

Reports for much of the summer have suggested that Inter’s priority is to sell Sensi permanently.

Finding a destination for the Azzurri midfielder hasn’t been the easiest task.

This is not because of any lack of talent on the part of the player – few would deny Sensi’s natural ability. But the 28-year-old’s persistent injury and fitness issues have made signing him feel like a bit of a gamble for even those clubs who target a player of his technical quality.

However, Inter may not sell Sensi after all.

The reason for this is the highly-publicized transfer debacle that their pursuit of Udinese midfielder Samardzic has become.

Samaredzic’s transfer to the Nerazzurri is not quite dead in the water yet. There are some last ditch talks underway to try and salvage the move.

However, over the past few days things have gone very much south in negotiations between Inter and the 21-year-old’s entourage.

This leaves the Nerazzurri in the hunt for a midfielder to complete the depth chart for next season.

And according to Mediaset, they may decide against dipping back into the transfer market.

Rather, the broadcaster anticipates, Inter’s idea is now to simply reintegrate Sensi back into the squad.

The former Neroverdi man’s injuries are always a possible issue. However, the fact that he would only be a depth option makes them far less of one.

Moreover, Sensi has had a very positive preseason – this has served as a timely reminder of what he can still contribute.
