Inter Milan are optimistic about striker Marcus Thuram making an impact despite his disappointing preseason.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Thuram is a player who arrived at Inter with big expectations.

Whilst the Frenchman signed without a transfer fee, he signed a deal that will see him earn very significant wages by the Nerazzurri’s standards.

This is reflective of the fact that Thuram has seen explosive growth over the past four seasons in the Bundesliga. Moreover, he has also broken out with the French national team, appearing in the World Cup final for Les Bleus.

Inter had to beat a fair bit of competition to sign Thuram.

And now that the season is just about at hand, the Nerazzurri will be hoping this looks like a transfer coup rather than a flop.

Inter Milan Optimistic That Marcus Thuram Can Settle In Quickly

Thuram will have hoped to have hit the ground running in Inter’s preseason.

In this sense, the 26-year-old has not met expectations.

Thuram has shown flashes of his talent here and there. No one would dispute the Frenchman’s pace and technical ability, which make him a threat on the counterattack.

What Thuram has yet to show, however, is a real edge in front of goal.

Last season was Thuram’s most prolific for Borussia Monchengladbach. This unsurprisingly coincided with his playing regularly as a centre-forward.

The Frenchman is a versatile attacker who can play all across the frontline. However, for much of his career he has played as more of a winger.

But the relative success of Thuram’s positional change last season has convinced Inter that he can lead the line in their front two.

Therefore, the former Gladbach man must quickly adjust and find his feet as a true centre-forward.

The big test will be whether Thuram can get into the rhythm of playing in the penalty area. He will also have to adapt to the style of defending and refereeing in Serie A.

According to the Gazzetta, however, Inter aren’t too worried.

The sense within the club is that Thuram is a very tactically intelligent and adaptable player. That is part of the reason they signed him.

From Inter’s perspective, Thuram has to find his feet quickly, and they believe that he can do so.
