Inter Milan have reportedly reignited their interest in Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard, but could face stern competition from Manchester United.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport via FcInterNews, the Nerazzurri are now ready to spend the transfer fee previously allocated for the Lazar Samardzic operation on a new defender.

As we all know by now, the Serie A giants were on the cusp of signing the Udinese youngster. However, the deal faltered at the eleventh hour due to additional commission requests from the player’s father.

Therefore, Inter will now turn their attention towards bolstering their backline. As the source explains, the Nerazzurri revived the track leading to Pavard.

The Beneamata already tried to lure in the Frenchman in January as a replacement for Milan Skriniar. But the latter lingered at the club until the expiry of his contract at the end of last season before joining PSG on a free transfer.

For his part, Pavard has been plying his trade in Bavaria since 2019. The versatile defender can play either at centre-back or right-back.

Therefore, Inter consider the 27-year-old the ideal profile for the role. He would occupy the right spot in Simone Inzaghi’s three-man defense.

Inter Milan Are Facing Competition From Manchester United For The Signature Of Bayern Munich Defender Benjamin Pavard

The 2018 World Cup winner’s contract with Bayern runs for another year. Therefore, he could be available at a cut price.

However, the source warns Inter of competition from Man Utd who are also keeping tabs on the French international.

The report also mentions alternative options for the Nerazzurri. However, Arenal would prefer to keep Takerio Tomiyasu following Jurrien Timber’s injury, while the Trevoh Chalobah operation remains on ice.

As for Rafael Toloi, the source believes Atalanta do not intend to sell their captain.
