Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez feels that the Nerazzurri got off to the exact start they needed to in their Serie A opener against Monza this evening.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the match, via FCInterNews, the 25-year-old gave his reaction.

Inter are officially off the mark in Serie A.

And so is Martinez. The Argentine scored both goals in a 2-0 win to mark his first competitive match as the club’s captain.

It was no one-man show by the captain however.

Inter looked fluid in possession and created quite a few chances more than they found the back of the net with.

A number of new signings got their first ever competitive starts for the Nerazzurri, whilst the cobwebs from the disappointment of losing the Champions League final in June were nowhere to be seen.

This was just the kind of feel-good start to the campaign that Inter needed in front of their fans.

And for his part, Martinez is happy with how the team approached the match.

Lautaro Martinez: Off On The Right Foot Vs Monza, Inter Looked Well-Prepared

Of Inter’s preseason, Martinez said that “It was a tough summer because we travelled to Japan.”

“It was incredibly hot there, but we trained well,” the new Nerazzurri captain continued. “I’m happy with our preparations, and with the friendlies.”

Martinez continued that “We had to send out a message, and we started on the right foot. I’m happy.”

Of the controversial situation surrounding his former strike partner Romelu Lukaku, Martinez said that “Lukaku was a Chelsea player. The clubs had to negotiation.”

“He made his choice,” Martinez added of the Belgian’s antics.

And of some new summer arrivals at Inter, Martinez commented that “We’ve brought in some talented, young players. We want them to grow here.”

“Everyone was well-prepared, even the players who got here later,” the striker said of the new signings who got a run-out.

Martinez said that “I linked up well with both Thuram and Arnautovic.”

Martinez also added that “I send out a big hello to my wife as well, who helped me become a father a second time, and to my children who’re watching in front of the TV.”
