Cagliari coach Claudio Ranieri is expecting Inter Milan to be able to fight for the Serie A title this season.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN following his team’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Nerazzurri, via FCInterNews, Ranieri stressed the quality of the opposition they were up against, predicting Inter as title contenders.

Cagliari got a real taste of life in the top flight against Inter this evening in Sardinia.

The Rossoblu had earned an impressive draw away to Torino early on in the campaign.

However, playing in front of their home fans for the first time this season, Cagliari were unable to resist Champions League finalists Inter.

The good news, however, is that this may well be one of Cagliari’s toughest matches out of the way.

The Sardinians will hope that they can be more competitive with many other teams.

And from Cagliari coach Ranieri’s perspective, there is no doubt that they were up against a team who were simply too formidable for them.

The veteran coach praised his former team Inter.

“The first half they clearly had total control over,” Ranieri admitted after his team’s loss to Inter.

“We tried to play our football, but there was too much confusion to our game.”

“In the second half they started trying to manage the game,” the Rossoblu coach continued. “And there we started to create some sparks of danger.”

“It’s good for us that the guys got a real taste of Serie A,” Ranieri said.

“The tackles, the strength and physicality of a team who will certainly be fighting for the Serie A table.”

Of Inter’s performance to beat his side, Ranieri said that “They had everything down to memory. We were not able to resist them.”
