Former Juventus midfielder Massimo Mauro believes that ex-Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku won’t make Roma Serie A title contenders.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, Mauro gave his thoughts on the Belgian’s anticipated move to the Italian capital.

Few will have expected Lukaku to join Roma this summer.

But it’s been a summer of surprising for the 30-year-old striker.

The Nerazzurri had made an attempt to sign Lukaku on a permanent basis from Chelseas. However, the revelation that the Belgian had been negotiating with Juventus behind their backs caused Inter to angrily pull the plug on talks to sign him.

Therefore, Lukaku’s future has appeared up in the air for much of the summer.

The 30-year-old has been linked with the Bianconeri as well as AC Milan. However, he has not joined either.

Instead, it looks to be another of Serie A’s biggest clubs who will bring Lukaku in. The Giallorossi are making a shock move to sign the Belgian in the final days of the transfer window.

Mauro: Romelu Lukaku Can Make Roma Title Contenders

Former Juventus midfielder Mauro said that “If that transfer happens as seems to be the case, Roma will get stronger.”

“But not to the point where they will challenge for the Scudetto,” he argued.

“I still see the Giallorossi as being in the running for a Champions League spot. But not more than that.”

Mauro also noted that “It certainly seems like Lukaku is restless. He seems to change clubs virtually every summer.”

“But you can’t really speak about the reasons for that,” the former midfielder added.

“You need to get to know him on a personal level to understand the reasons for all these transfers.”

Lukaku has played for three Premier League clubs. Soon, the Belgian could also join his third club in Serie A.
