Today will be decisive for Inter Milan in their pursuit of Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the Nerazzurri will hold key talks with Bayern to determine once and for all whether they are going to sign the Frenchman or not.

According to the Gazzetta, there is disagreement within the Bayern camp about whether to sell Pavard to Inter.

Reportedly, Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel wants to keep hold of the former Stuttgart defender.

From the coach’s perspective, he does not want to lose an important player in his backline. Even if the player wants to leave, and regardless of the financial considerations.

Meanwhile, Bayern’s club directors are much more inclined towards green lighting Pavard’s move to Inter.

The Bavarians have already agreed a fee of €30 million plus €2 million in add-ons with Inter. From the club directors’ perspective, this is a very high fee to receive for a player who could otherwise leave on a free transfer next summer.

In fact, Inter reportedly want to snap the Frenchman up on a free transfer when his Bayern contract expires if they can’t sign him now.

Decisive Talks Today For Inter Milan In Benjamin Pavard Pursuit

So the situation at Bayern appears to be this – Tuchel would like to keep the player, the directors want to cash in.

And in any event, Bayern are looking to sign a replacement. Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah appears to be the top name on the German champions’ shortlist.

The arrival of a replacement like Chalobah could ameliorate Tuchel’s concerns.

According to the Gazzetta, Bayern’s hierarchy will hold an internal meeting today.

There, they will make more or less the final decision on whether or not to sell Pavard to Inter.

Then, the Bayern directors will hold talks with their Nerazzurri counterparts.

At that point it should become clear, one way or the other, whether Pavard will be making the move to Inter this summer.
