Former Napoli, Lazio, and Fiorentina midfielder Valon Behrami is skeptical about the impact that Romelu Lukaku will have on the Serie A title race.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, the ex-Swiss international gave his thoughts on the former Inter Milan and seemingly Roma-bound Belgian striker.

Roma look to be on the verge of completing the shock signing of Lukaku from Chelsea.

It had for a long time seemed as though Inter would bring the 30-year-old back this season.

Then, after the Nerazzurri angrily pulled the plug on talks to sign the Belgian, Juventus had seemingly emerged as favourites. After all, it had been negotiations with the Bianconeri that soured his relationship with Inter.

But for one reason or another, Juventus have not signed Lukaku.

Inter’s city rivals AC Milan were another surprise candidate to sign the Chelsea striker.

However, now it appears as though Roma have been the club to finally make the decisive move. The Giallorossi will be hoping that Lukaku can be the player to give them new life in the Serie A title race, or at least in the hunt for a spot in the Champions League.

But for his part, Behrami isn’t so sure.

The Swiss believes that the effectiveness of Lukaku has potentially been overstated.

Behrami Questions Whether Romelu Lukaku Can “Shift The Balance” In Serie A

“Lukaku when he’s on form can push a team up the pitch,” he argued. “And he’ll be a good addition to Roma. But I don’t think he’ll shift the balance.”

“Look at last season, for example,” Behrami continued.

“Did he drag Inter along for the last two months? Hardly. Everyone in that team was starting to get back into form.”

“For example, they reached the Champions League final, and did so without him scoring for the last two months.”
