Midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu “ran the show” for Inter Milan in the Nerazzurri’s 2-0 Serie A win away to Cagliari yesterday evening.

As L’Intersita highlight, the Turkish international received positive scores across the board in the player ratings for the match published for the match in Italian media.

Yesterday evening, Calhanoglu started in what has become his customary regista position.

Last season, the former AC Milan completed his transition to playing in the role. Having initially played in more of a box-to-box role in his first season at Inter, it is now a very familiar sight to see the Turk playing at the base of the midfield trio.

And against Cagliar, Calhanoglu showed exactly why that is the case.

Hakan Calhanoglu “Ran The Show” For Inter Milan In Serie A Win Vs Cagliari

Calhanoglu’s passing was key to setting the tempo against Cagliari as it very often is for Inter.

The 29-year-old was at the heart of the Nerazzurri’s very direct attacking play in the first half. And in the second half, he was often the player to slow things down and keep the ball away from a Rossoblu who were trying frenetically to get a goal back.

But this was not all that Calhanoglu did against Cagliari.

As he had shown against Monza in Inter’s Serie A, the 29-year-old increasingly has a real zeal for the defensivce side of the game.

Calhanoglu had no trouble tracking runners from Cagliari’s midfield. His workrate to get back, often right to his own goalline when need be, helped shore things up.

The Turk also protected the Nerazzurri backline with a couple of strong tackles.

The Corriere dello Sport awarded Calhanoglu with a 7/10 grade for his performance.

Meanwhile, all of the Gazzetta dello Sport, Tuttosport, TuttoMercatoWeb, and L’Intersta went just one score lower, at 6.5/10.
