Goalkeeper Yann Sommer has earned praise for a key late save to help Inter Milan keep a clean sheet against Cagliari.

As L’Interista highlight, the player ratings for the match across Italian media commended the Swiss.

Sommer is still settling in at Inter.

The 34-year-old arrived at the club from Bayern Munich earlier this month.

Sommer arrived in to replace Andre Onana in goal. Filling the Cameroonian’s shoes will be no small task, considering the impact that he made even in just a single season in a Nerazzurri shirt.

But after two matches at Inter, Sommer is starting to find his feet in Serie A.

A key aspect that was always going to be hard to place with Onana is the 27-year-old now-Manchester United keeper’s range of passing.

Sommer did show the adventurous, proactive side of Onana’s passing against Cagliari.

However, there was a bit of a lack of the Cameroonian’s polish as Sommer played a pass straight to a Cagliari midfielder before Inter captain Lautaro Martinez won it back.

But overall, Sommer did look as though he has no lack of confidence.

Yann Sommer Praised For Key Save To Preserve Inter Clean Sheet Vs Cagliari

Cagliari didn’t do a great deal to test Sommer’s shot-stopping ability for much of yesterday’s match.

However, late in the match, the Sardinians did push for a goal.

And when Cagliari did break through Inter’s defense, Sommer proved that he was up to the task as a failsafe.

A low shot into the bottom corner by Cagliari midfielder Paulo Azzi looked as though it had pulled one back for Inter.

But Sommer dove, ensuring that neither he nor Inter have conceded yet this season.

Tuttosport gave the Swiss a score of 7/10. And the Gazzetta dello Sport, the Corriere dello Sport, TuttoMercatoWeb, and L’Interista all went with 6.5/10.
