Midfielder Lucien Agoume could be in for a surprise stay at Inter Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who report that the 21-year-old is still at the Nerazzurri despite links with Almeria, and could end up staying.

Agoume has been a player who’s looked as though an exit from Inter is almost a certainty for much of the summer.

There is hardly a sense that the Frenchman has a regular place in the Nerazzurri’s senior squad.

In the past few weeks, Almeria have shown a strong interest in Agoume’s signature. But the La Liga club have not sealed the deal.

Moreover, as Tuttosport note, Inter could have reason to keep Agoume around this season.

Last campaign, Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi relied on Roberto Gagliardini a fair bit, despite frequent derision by fans.

This reflects the coach’s desire to have a tall, physical midfielder at his disposal to use as a defensive option.

With Stefano Sensi seemingly staying, the player who’s replacing Agoume in the squad is virtually Gagliardini’s polar opposite. The 28-year-old’s technical ability are not in any question, something few would say about Gagliardini.

But Sensi has none of the now-Monza midfielder’s size or physical robustness.

Therefore, Inzaghi could decide to keep Agoume around as Gagliardini’s successor in terms of profile.

Lucien Agoume Could Stay At Inter Milan After All As Almeria Move Yet To Materialize

During the 2021-22 season, Agoume went out on loan back to his native France.

The Inter midfielder spent that campaign on loan with Brest in Ligue 1.

This was a considerably more positive experience for Agoume. Unlike during his time at Spezia, the midfielder played a key role as a regular starter that team.

Agoume helped keep Brest in the French top flight during his season on loan with the club.

Last time around, it was Troyes who won the race to sign Agoume on loan. They brought the Nerazzurri starlet back to Ligue 1.

However, Agoume was unfortunate to suffer a major injury early on in the campaign that ruled him out of action for several months.

However, over the second half of the campaign Agoume was able to play more regularly. He racked up fifteen appearances in total.

Therefore, another loan has looked probable. And Almeria have shown real interest.

But it is now just a couple days away from the slamming shut of the transfer window.

Therefore, for the time being at least, it looks as though Agoume wearing the Nerazzurri shirt at least until the January transfer window opens, looks like a concrete possibility.
