Sassuolo midfielder Maxime Lopez has been offered to Inter Milan – and could be part of a last-minute swap deal.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that the 25-year-old’s agent has suggested the idea of a transfer to the Nerazzurri, and that a swap deal involving former Neroverdi midfielder Stefano Sensi could even be a possibility.

With just a couple of days left to go in the summer transfer window, Inter look to be just about done with their business.

Benjamin Pavard is on the verge of completing his move from Bayern Munich. And that could very well be the last signing that the Nerazzurri make in what’s been a busy summer.

However, one area where there is a bit of remaining uncertainty is in midfield.

After the Nerazzurri’s move for Lazar Samardzic fell through, they have been strategizing about how to fill the role of the “sixth” midfielder in the depth chart.

Keeping 28-year-old Stefano Sensi in the squad after he returned from his loan with Monza appears the likeliest move.

But a last-minute surprise to bring in a new signing can’t be entirely ruled out.

Sassuolo Midfielder Maxime Lopez Offered To Inter Milan

According to FCIN, Lopez’s name came up in talks between Inter and agent Pini Zahavi.

Zahavi is the agent who represents Pavard. Therefore, the Nerazzurri have been working with the prominent Israeli agent as they’ve finalized the deal to sign the Frenchman.

However, Zahavi also represents a number of other players.

One is Sassuolo midfielder Lopez.

The Frenchman currently plays for Sassuolo. However, he has made clear that he is hoping to leave the Neroverdi this summer.

Napoli were one big club with whom Lopez was linked. However, that move never materialized.

Therefore, FCIN report, Zahavi is still sounding out the market for possible destinations for Lopez.

And, FCIN report, he has offered the former Marseille midfielder to Inter.

Lopez would not quite be the kind of profile the Nerazzurri are seeking. Reports suggest that Inter coach Simone Inzaghi still wants to sign a tall, physical midfielder to add a defensive presence in central midfield.

However, Lopez could be more of a signing of opportunity.

Key to making a deal to sign Lopez could be offering Sensi going the other way.

This would be something of a like-for-like swap. FCIN does not make clear what sort of terms the deal could have, and whether the Nerazzurri would have to pay any cash in addition to sending Sensi to the Mapei Stadium.

In any event, it is also not yet clear whether Sassuolo would be keen on bringing Sensi, who signed for Inter from the Emilian club in 2019, back.
