Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta reveals that the club has rejected lucrative proposals for Hakan Calhanoglu this summer.

The Nerazzurri signed the 29-year-old in the summer of 2021 on a free transfer after seeing off his contract with their crosstown rivals AC Milan.

The Turkish star swiftly established himself as a mainstay in Simone Inzaghi’s starting formation.

Last season, he excelled in the deep-lying playmaker role while Marcelo Brozovic was unavailable.

With the Croatian no longer at the club, Calhanoglu has now become Inzaghi’s ultimate choice for the Regista position.

The former Bayer Leverkusen midfielder is a substantial part of the squad, and Marotta confirmed as much.

The Nerazzurri CEO revealed that the management rejected some enticing proposals for the midfielder this summer, as they insisted on maintaining his services.

“We received important offers for Calhanoglu, but for us, he’s a very important player,” said Marotta in an interview with TRT Sport via FcInterNews.

“Hakan will remain with us also this season and will offer his important contributions to the club.”

The 66-year-old was present at the Champions League group stage draw on Thursday which was held in Monte Carlo.

He expects the Nerazzurri to provide great memories this season after reaching the final in last season’s edition.

“The Champions League is a great competition. I think Inter will provide good memories this season as well.”

The Italian giants landed in Group D alongside Benfica, Red Bull Salzburg and Real Sociedad.
