Simone Inzaghi will mainly play Davy Klaasen on the left side of midfield for Inter Milan this season.
This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the 30-year-old former Everton and Werder Bremen will mainly be a depth option on the left rather than competing with Stefano Sensi to be the main backup on the right side of the trio.
This season, Inzaghi will have a bit of a puzzle on his hands in midfield.
The 47-year-old will be spoilt for choice in terms of the number of versatile options that he has at his disposal.
What looks clear is that Hakan Calhanoglu will be the first-choice regista playing in the deepest position at the centre of the trio.
Meanwhile, Nicolo Barella has typically played on the right of midfield. And Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been the man who’s typically started on the left since arriving last summer.
But things have gotten a bit more uncertain with the changes that have come this summer.
Inzaghi Plans To Play Davy Klaassen As Left Midfielder At Inter Milan
For one thing, the arrival of Davy Klaasen has left a lot of doubt as to the midfield positioning.
Expectations are that sooner or later the 23-year-old will establish a regular starting role for himself.
However, Frattesi typically plays on the right. That is where he has played for Sassuolo and Italy.
It could be up to the versatile Nicolo Barella to shift over to the left to accommodate Frattesi.
Meanwhile, Sensi is back in Inter’s squad. It looks as though the 28-year-old will mainly play on the right of the trio. He can potentially be a backup option.
This has led to some considerations as to whether the Nerazzurri would have too many players whose strongest position is on the right side of midfield.
But according to the Gazzetta, Klaassen will not add to this issue.
The newspaper reports that Inzaghi plans to mainly use the Dutchman as a new option on the left.
