Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi is happy with the intelligence that Marcus Thuram has shown to adapt early this season.
Speaking in a press conference following the Nerazzurri’s 4-0 win over Fiorentina, as reported by FCInterNews, the coach praised the Frenchman who had scored his first ever goal in an Inter shirt to open the scoring.
Thuram was one of Inter’s big name arrivals during the summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old signed without a transfer fee. However, the fact that Inter had to beat out a lot of competition for his signature, he arrived with some pressure to do well.
Moreover, Thuram is one of Inter’s highest earners – it is not as though the Nerazzurri are not investing big in the Frenchman.
Therefore, it was naturally a bit of a worry that Thuram had not scored in preseason.
The 26-year-old also failed to find the back of the net in Inter’s first two matches of the season, wins over Monza and Cagliari.
However, Thuram has shown clear signs of finding his feet in a Nerazzurri shirt. His performances against the Brianzoli and the Rossoblu were good.
Thuram even notched his first ever assist for Inter against the latter.
And now he can add a goal to that. Thuram headed home from a Federico Dimarco to open the scoring in a 4-0 rout of Fiorentina.
Inter Milan Coach Simone Inzaghi Happy With “Intelligent” Marcus Thuram
After Thuram’s performance, Inzaghi said that “He’s a very intelligent young man. He’s shown a strong desire to learn.”
“He’s training with a lot of hunger,” he continued. “He speaks Italian very well, and the other players are helping him integrate.”
“He did what he had to do very well, and I’m happy that he got his goal because he deserves it.”
Of what being top of the table in Serie A means, Inzaghi said that “It’s important for the fans, for the club, for what it represents.”
“We respect Milan, a well-coached team with a great style of play,” he continued.
“We’ll face them in the best way possible,” Inzaghi continued. “We would have liked to have the same kind of preparation time to face them as with the past few matches. But we have the international break.”
“The players are happy to represent their national teams,” Inzaghi noted. “And as coaches we know we’ll only have 2-3 days to prepare for the matches after. But it’s the same for everyone.”
Inzaghi also made clear that Hakan Calhanoglu is the first-choice penalty-taker at Inter after the Turk scored the Nerazzurri’s third from the spot.
“We have him. Then there’s Lautaro, Sanchez.”
“It’s only right that he stepped up and took it today,” the coach added. “And it was a great penalty.”
