Inter captain Lautaro Martinez feels that the Nerazzurri sent a clear message with their emphatic win over Fiorentina this evening.
Speaking to InterTV after the match, via FCInterNews, the Argentine gave his reaction to the 4-0 thrashing of La Viola at the San Siro.
Inter made it three wins from three in Serie A against Fiorentina.
Not only that, but the Nerazzurri also did so in impressive style.
The 4-0 scoreline hardly flattered Inter’s performance. They created more and better chances than Fiorentina by far.
And considering that the Tuscans had beaten Inter the last time they played at the San Siro, and made life very difficult for them in the Coppa Italia final last season, this was certainly a statement of intent from the Nerazzurri.
And if there’s a team who will have received the message, it was Milan.
The Rossoneri have been in blistering form themselves. They’re the only other team along with Inter yet to drop points in Serie A so far this campaign.
And the two teams are in a collision course. The Milan derby will come right after the international break.
Lautaro Martinez: Inter Milan “Sent A Message” With 4-0 Win Over Fiorentina
“I’m happy with the win, and with the way the team played,” Martinez said.
“It was important to win because now we have the international break,” he continued.
“It will now be important to recover and think about what’s to come.”
Martinez noted that “Thuram knows how to play as a striker in addition to doing the dirty work,.”
“Sometimes we take turns playing up top,” he said of his new strike partner. “I’m happy with how everyone plays.”
“We did a great job here.”
Martinez also said that the mental side of the game is “Very important, we have to be able to stay focused for ninety minutes. And we did so this evening.”
“We sent a message, including for the coach.”
“Now we’re obviously thinking about the derby,” Martinez noted. “It’s always a special match.”
“Everyone’s going off with their national teams now. But then when we return we’ll think about the derby.”
“It will be a great match,” he predicted. “We’re top of the table, and so are they.”
