Former Nerazzurri and La Viola midfielder Borja Valero feels that Inter Milan did very well with their counterattacks against Fiorentina.
Speaking on Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, the Spaniard gave his reaction to the Serie A clash between two of his former sides.
Against Fiorentina yesterday, Inter did not have the majority of possession.
However, when the Nerazzurri did get hold of the ball, their strategy looked to be fairly clear.
Inter played a very direct style once they won possession. They were not afraid to go for the long balls forward at times.
Aggression and physicality were a key aspect of the Nerazzurri’s tactical approach. These allowed them to win the ball quickly and often high up the pitch while Fiorentina were not in their defensive shape.
But at the same time, Inter needed to be technical and precise with how they attacked.
The likes of Marcus Thuram, Lautaro Martinez, and Federico Dimarco particularly were key in this sense. Inter were able to hold onto the ball once they won it, bypassing Viola pressure and frequently attacking through intricate passing combinations.
Valero: Impressed With How Inter Milan Counterattacked Vs Fiorentina
For his part, Valero felt that Inter’s counterattacking prowess was an outstanding feature of their style against Fiorentina.
“The aspect that’s impressed me most about the start of Inter’s season has been their hunger to win the ball back,” he said.
“Look at how quickly they move to do so. They’ve looked very aggressive.”
And Valero also gave his thoughts on Inter against their city rivals AC Milan.
“Inter’s defense, midfield, and attack are all stronger than Milan’s,” he argued.
The Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri are the two teams to have started the Serie A season with perfect records.
The pair face off in the derby after the international break.
