A new attacking partnership has already blossomed at Inter Milan – yesterday’s thrashing of Fiorentina was the start of the “ThuLa” era.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

This season, Inter look to have a fairly clear hierarchy in the attacking positions right from the starts.

Few would have doubted that new Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martinez would be at the heart of things.

But right alongside the Argentine, and of virtually equal importance, has been summer signing Marcus Thuram.

Marko Arnautovic and Alexis Sanchez have also arrived this summer. They certainly have the quality and experience to give their contribution.

Both veterans will be needed as the season wears on – with around fifty matches to be played in all competitions, they can both start matches and come off the bench.

But in terms the first-choice pair, Martinez and Thuram look to be the duo.

The “ThuLa” Era At Inter Milan Begins In Fiorentina Demolition

So far this season Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has started Martinez and Thuram in every one of Inter’s three Serie A matches.

Martinez, Inter’s top scorer in each of the past two seasons, has scored five of the team’s eight goals. He has underlined his importance.

And Thuram has also gotten off the mark.

After positive early signs against Monza and Cagliari without finding the back of the net, yesterday was the Frenchman’s night. He opened the scoring against Fiorentina with a bullet header from a Federico Dimarco cross.

The sense is now that Inter have a real strike partnership up front.

Martinez has already been part of one prolific duo at the Nerazzurri. He and Romelu Lukaku had found a great understanding that allowed each striker to flourish.

But the Belgian is at Roma after a summer soap opera saw his relationship with Inter implode.

That, naturally, led to some worries about the Nerazzurri’s attacking potency. Would Martinez be able to be at his best without his old running buddy, and would any other strikers be able to replace Lukaku’s goals?

Martinez and Thuram provided an answer against Fiorentina.

Both strikers were on the scoresheet. And moreover, there was a sense that they already know how to play together.

La Viola’s defense looked ragged trying to keep up with the tandem movement of the two Inter strikers.

This was the first time that Serie A saw what ThuLa can really do.
