Legendary former Inter Milan defender Beppe Bergomi feels that Inter, AC Milan, and Napoli are the three favourites for the Serie A title.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, the former defender gave his predictions for the title race in the Italian top flight.

The Serie A season is only just underway.

However, there are already early indications as to which teams have what it takes to fight for the title until the end,

Derby rivals Inter and Milan are the only two teams to have won all three of their opening matches.

Moreover, the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri are on a collision course for after the international break. At least one of the two will see their perfect record come to an end after the derby.

Meanwhile, reigning champions Napoli have stumbled going into the break.

The Partenopei fell to a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Lazio last weekend, a sour note on which to head into the break.

However, emphatic wins over Frosinone and Sassuolo suggest that the champions can still perform at a very high level.

Bergomi: Inter & AC Milan The Favourites For Serie A title, Along With Napoli

There are also some other candidates for the Scudetto.

Juventus have taken seven points out of nine so far, laying down an early marker. Lecce have as well, although few would possibly regarding the Calabrians as realistic title contenders.

Roma had an eye-catching summer transfer window that marked them out in the Scudetto race in the eyes of many. But a horror start to the campaign sees the Giallorossi with catching up to do already.

Bergomi predicted that “The season will come alive with the derby. So far it’s just been very early doors, ‘August football.'”

“For me, the favourites for the title are the two Milan teams and Napoli,” Bergomi anticipated.

“To be Inter look very convinced of themselves, very solid. They still look like they’re riding the wave that took them to Istanbul.”

And he also noted that “Pioli’s work doesn’t surprise me. I like Garcia but without Kim it can be tough [for Napoli].”
