Inter Milan fell within their UEFA settlement agreement for the 2022-23 season, and are on track to do so again for the 2023-24 season as well.
This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it. They note that the Nerazzurri’s total losses for the 2022-23 campaign were around €80 million, which was within the acceptable range.
In June of last year, Inter entered into a settlement agreement with UEFA.
This was in response to the fact that the Nerazzurri had recorded a break-even deficit for several fiscal years prior.
European football’s governing body has been using agreements of this type to try and force clubs to stay within their financial means.
Inter are far from the only club to have entered into an agreement of this nature.
Other big Serie A clubs such as AC Milan, Juventus, and Roma all also signed settlement agreements with UEFA.
The question for Inter, as with every club who had signed an agreement, was whether they would fall within its parameters.
And according to the Gazzetta, UEFA confirmed in July that the Nerazzurri have indeed honoured the terms of their agreement.
Inter Milan Fall Within UEFA Settlement Agreement For 2022-23 – Losses Between €80-85 Million
Last season for the first time in several seasons, Inter recorded losses that were not higher than €100 million.
According to the Gazzetta, Inter’s losses were right around €80-85 million.
This falls within the parameters that the Nerazzurri had agreed with UEFA.
A key factor in this was, naturally, the revenues that the Nerazzurri brought in from reaching the Champions League final. This is not exactly something that Inter budgeted for.
Meanwhile, Inter also brought in over €80 million from gate receipt revenues across the 2022-23 season.
This included setting an Italian record for revenues from gate receipts for a single match.
The Nerazzurri earned over €12 million for their Champions League semifinal second leg against AC Milan at the San Siro in May.
These high Champions League and stadium earnings offset the debacle that was DigitalBits’ nonpayment of amounts owed on their main shirt sponsorship deal.
Nerazzurri Also On Track To Fall Within Settlement Agreement For 2023-24
Meanwhile, the Gazzetta anticipates, Inter are also well on track to fall within the terms of their agreement for the 2023-24 season.,
This is due to a couple of factors, mainly.
Firstly, there is the fact that the Nerazzurri have significantly reduced their wage bill. The likes of top earners such as Marcelo Brozovic, Edin Dzeko, and Romelu Lukaku have all left the club.
Therefore, the Nerazzurri have cut their wage bill by 10-12% for this season compared to last.
And additionally, Inter have also brought in cash from the transfer market.
The summer transfer window just gone did not see the Nerazzurri bring in a sizable net profit like either of the two previous ones.
However, the sale of Andre Onana to Manchester United for a fee of around €52.5 million certainly helped. That is particularly the case given that the Cameroonian had arrived on a free transfer and the fee was therefore a pure capital gain.
