Inter Milan wingback Federico Dimarco has come under criticism for his wasteful performance in Italy’s 1-1 draw against North Macedonia.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, give the 25-year-old a score of 5.5/10 in the player ratings for the match.

Yesterday, the Italian national team began a new era.

For the first time, ex-Napoli, Inter, and Roma coach Luciano Spalletti took charge of a competitive fixture for the Azzurri.

And in truth, it was not the note on which Spalletti and Italy will have wanted to start.

Italy dominated the ball against a technically inferior North Macedonia side. That did not come as much of a surprise.

But Spalletti’s men struggled to fashion many telling chances.

Lazio captain Ciro Immobile found the back of the net early in the second half. But then in the 81st minute of the match, Trabzonspor midfielder Enis Bardhi equalized.

Spalletti and Italy have to settle for a point which leaves them three points behind Ukraine in their qualifying group, albeit with a game in hand.

Federico Dimarco Criticized For Performance For Italy Vs North Macedonia

With Italy having the predictable lion’s share of possession, Dimarco had the chance to get forward and attack plenty.

And the 25-year-old has shown how devastating he can be with his performances over the past twelve months. This has been the case for both club and country.

But in truth, Dimarco was unable to really find the right edge in the final third.

The Inter wingback particularly receives criticism for the decision to pass instead of shoot from a promising position.

The Corriere give Dimarco a grade of just 5.5/10 for his display.

Meanwhile, two of Dimarco’s Inter teammates also started in the first Italy eleven that Spalletti named.

Both midfielder Nicolo Barella and defender Alessandro Bastoni receive scores of 6/10 from the Gazzetta.
