It was a mixed night for Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni in Italy’s 1-1 draw with North Macedonia.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who award the 24-year-old a score of 6/10 for his display in the player ratings for the EURO 2024 qualifier.

Yesterday, the Italian national team began a new era.

For the first time, ex-Napoli, Inter, and Roma coach Luciano Spalletti took charge of a competitive fixture for the Azzurri.

And in truth, it was not the note on which Spalletti and Italy will have wanted to start.

Italy dominated the ball against a technically inferior North Macedonia side. That did not come as much of a surprise.

But Spalletti’s men struggled to fashion many telling chances.

Lazio captain Ciro Immobile found the back of the net early in the second half. But then in the 81st minute of the match, Trabzonspor midfielder Enis Bardhi equalized.

Spalletti and Italy have to settle for a point which leaves them three points behind Ukraine in their qualifying group, albeit with a game in hand.

Three Inter players started for the Azzurri against North Macedonia.

One was defender Alessandro Bastoni. The 24-year-old paired with Roma’s Gianluca Mancini at the heart of the Italian defense.

There was one early scare when the Inter defender somewhat clumsily challenged Aberdeen striker Bojan Miovski, leading to a North Macedonia penalty appeal.

But the spot kick was not given as there was not enough contact to be a foul.

After that, Bastoni did his defending well enough.

But it was hardly the most eye-catching display from the former Atalanta and Parma defender. In the view of Tuttosport, he should have shown more considering how well he’s started the season with Inter.

Meanwhile, Nerazzurri midfielder Nicolo Barella also started, and earned a 6.5/10 grade.

And Inter wingback Federico Dimarco received the same score as Bastoni, 6/10.
