Frosinone coach Eusebio Di Francesco is a fan of the style of play of Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram.
Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, the former Roma and Sassuolo coach also gave his thoughts on Inter and AC Milan’s fast starts in the Serie A title race.
Thuram is a player who’s immediately made his mark in an Inter shirt.
The Frenchman joined the Nerazzurri with big expectations on his shoulders. But so far, he is showing exactly why Inter made an effort to sign him ahead of a number of other clubs on a free transfer.
Thuram has notched a goal and an assist in Inter’s first three matches of the season.
That is a decent return, though hardly spectacular for a player in the striker position. Particularly for a team who have been as prolific at creating chances as Inter have.
But as Di Francesco notes, Thuram brings a lot more to the team than just goals and assists.
Di Francesco Lauds Inter Milan Striker Marcus Thuram
Over his first few matches at Inter, Thuram has looked like a player who’s very comfortable drifting around the pitch.
The 26-year-old has frequently dropped deeper on the pitch.
Sometimes, this has allowed Thuram to burst forward with the ball.
But just as often, the former Borussia Monchengladbach and Guingamp striker has aimed to simply hold onto possession and then find a teammate.
This means that Thuram has often been involved in Inter’s most dangerous attacking moves. Even when he has not been on the end of them.
Asked about the Serie A title race, Di Francesco said that “Inter and Milan have started strong.”
“But then, Napoli are still champions. And keep an eye on Juve.”
Di Francesco noted that “I like the way that Thuram plays off his teammates, as well as the Milan midfielder Reijnders.”
