Former Lazio goalkeeper Fernando Orsi believes that the derby between Inter and AC Milan is at the same level as a big Premier League match between Liverpool and Man City.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Radio Radio, via L’Interista, the former keeper gave his thoughts on the upcoming derby.

In recent seasons, some of the high-profile matches in European football have been played in the Premier League.

The financial dominance of the English top flight have led to many of the top players and coaches arriving at English teams.

This has, naturally, meant that the standard of football has risen. The sense is that the top teams in the Premier League are now right at the level of Europe’s elite.

Manchester City are certainly right up there.

Pep Guardiola’s men won the European Treble last season, beating Inter in the Champions League final. This saw them stake their claim as the continent’s outstanding team.

And Liverpool have been the team to push the Cityzens more often than not in recent seasons.

The Red have themselves won both the Champions League and the Premier League under Juergen Klopp.

Naturally, the two teams have played out some incredibly frenetic, high-quality matches between themselves.

Orsi: Inter Milan Vs AC Milan Derby At Same Level As Liverpool Vs Man City

Big fixtures like the Milan derby in Serie A have a sense of prestige and history that many big Premier League matches don’t.

However, there has been a sense that the quality on the pitch hasn’t always matched that.

But this season, both Inter and Milan have started the campaign in outstanding form.

The Nerazzurri were Champions League finalists last season, and had an ambitious summer transfer window.

And the Rossoneri were also extremely active in the transfer market, strengthening with high-profile signings.

Orsi said that “I don’t know who the favourite is. Both are in good form.”

“I’m convinced that this match comes at just the right time in terms of both teams cresting in form,” the former Lazio keeper argued.

“I’m convinced we will see a high level match,” he continued. “It can be at the level of Liverpool against Man City.”

Orsie also said that “I’m intrigued by Milan, while Inter are already more of a known commodity.”
