AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud is training individually ahead of the Milan derby clash with Inter Milan next Saturday.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, who report that the Frenchman is not considered a major doubt for the match, but that no risks are being taken immediately after he sustained a minor ankle injury on international duty.

Rossoneri striker Giroud started for France in a World Cup qualifying match against Ireland.

However, the 36-year-old had to come off the pitch midway through the first half of the match. Inter striker Marcus Thuram replaced him, going on to score the second goal of the 2-0 win.

The Frenchman’s injury is not overly serious.

Tests suggest that Giroud has suffered a minor sprain to his ankle.

However, the problem was enough that Giroud will play no part for Les Bleus in this evening’s friendly match against Germany.

The Milan striker is aiming to recover fitness in time to start in the derby against Inter on Saturday.

Olivier Giroud Training Individually Ahead Of Derby Clash Vs Inter Milan

According to Sky, Giroud is currently just working individually in training.

At the moment, the main concern is not having the former Chelsea and Arsenal striker put too much weight on his foot.

The injury has not yet fully recovered, and so naturally Giroud is aiming not to aggravate it further.

And in any event, Sky reports, the 36-year-old will be ready to return to full training by the end of the week. Then, he can put the ankle to the test to see whether he’ll be able to play against Inter – it looks very likely.

Having Giroud available would certainly be a major boost for Milan coach Stefano Pioli.

The Frenchman is Milan’s top scorer for the season after three matches. He has scored four goals from just three matches, one goal behind Inter’s Lautaro Martinez.
