Javier Zanetti feels that being Inter Milan Vice-President is a “fascinating adventure.”

Speaking to Swiss broadcaster RSI, via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri executive and former captain gave his thoughts on life in an off-the-pitch role at the club he’s had a decades-long association with.

Zanetti is currently the Vice-President at Inter.

The Argentine has been in the role since 2014, nearly a decade.

During his playing career, Zanetti was one of Inter’s most iconic player. The Argentine made nearly a thousand appearances wearing the Nerazzurri shirt, captaining the club for the majority of his time there.

Zanetti led Inter to multiple trophies, including the European Treble during the 2009-10 season.

And he has only strengthened his connection to Inter after hanging up his boots.

Zanetti holds a key executive role, having done so under two different Nerazzurri ownerships.

This has meant all sorts of new challenges for Zanetti.

Whilst few would doubt the 50-year-old’s abilities as a footballer, he has had to adapt to an entirely different role now that he holds a position off the pitch.

Javier Zanetti Calls Being Inter Milan Vice-President A “Fascinating Adventure”

Sitting in the Inter trophy room, Zanetti said that “We’re in a room that brings back a lot of great memories and emotions for me.”

“Having contributed to so many successes and remaining in the history of the club is very important to me.”

“Being the player who has won the most trophies in an Inter shirt fills me with pride,” Zanetti continued.

“After I arrived here from Argentina I spent my entire career wearing the same shirt, and I will always carry it with me.”

Of his new role, Zanetti said that “We can divide my time at the club into two stages.”

“The first one as a player is important,” he continued. “But then the new one as Vice-President is equally fascinating.”

He noted that “I had to prepare for it. I had to study, because I think that being Vice-{resident of Inter has a lot of huge responsibilities, not just on the sporting side, but also in other areas of the club that need to grow.”
