Former Lazio captain Senad Lulic feels that Inter Milan’s Simone Inzaghi and AC Milan’s Stefano Pioli have very different coaching styles.

The Bosnian gave his thoughts to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, ahead of the pair of former Biancocelesti coaches squaring off in the Milan derby this evening.

Both coaches on either side of the Milan derby have coached in the Italian capital in the recent past.

Pioli had coached Lazio between 2014 and 2016.

Then, after the current Milan coach was sacked, Inzaghi took over. And the current Inter coach held onto his position for over five years, only departing to join the Nerazzurri in the summer of 2021.

One man who worked closely with both coaches was former winger Lulic.

Now 37 and retired, Lulic spent spent a decade with the Biancocelesti, working with numerous coaches along the way.

And for his part, the Bosnian has a few observations about the difference between Pioli and Inzaghi.

Lulic On Differences Between Inzaghi & Pioli

Lulic said that “Stefano was more like a father to us. Simone was like a friend or a brother.”

“Simone is always excited, electric, especially in a match like the derby,” he noted.

“We alwas saw him pacing up and down the touchline, shouting how instructions for how he wanted us to play.”

“He lives in his own world,” Lulic said of the Nerazzurri coach. “He just can’t stay calm during a match.”

“Imagine how big a match like this is for someone like that.”

“He’s obsessive in his work,” Lulic said of Inzaghi.

“It’s his passion, his life.”

“His incredible hunger has grown year on year,” he observed of the Nerazzurri coach.

“He’s very close to his staff, whom he trusts with absolute blind faith.”

“In these kinds of matches they prepare everything down to the smallest detail,” Lulic noted. “They spend entire evenings together watching and reviewing matches trying to figure out how to make the difference.”
