Legendary former AC Milan coach Arrigo Sacchi feels that Inter Milan “kept things simple” to prevail in the Milan derby.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, Sacchi contrasted the Nerazzurri’s “focused, humble, and compact” tactics with the “confused” approach of the Rossoneri.

Inter did not just beat Milan in Saturday evening’s derby clash – they dismantled them.

Pre-match predictions anticipated a fairly even and balanced match. Both the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri had shown impressive form to win their first three matches of the season.

And, like against Fiorentina before the international break, Inter allowed their city rivals the majority of possession.

But like in their win over La Viola, the Nerazzurri won by a four-goal margin.

Inter’s performance was a ruthless and clinical one.

The 5-1 scoreline reflected how well they were able to create danger when they had the ball.

And in the view of former Milan coach Sacchi, a lot of this was down to the Nerazzurri keeping things simple, knowing their strengths, and not deviating from their approach.

Sacchi: Inter Milan “Kept Things Simple” To Beat AC Milan

“There was one team on the pitch whose best qualities were modesty and focus,” Sacchi said. “Inter.”

“And then there was a team who didn’t look to be taking things seriously, Milan.”

“They seemed to be facile and confused in their approach,” he said of the Rossoneri.

“Every time they counterattacked, the Nerazzurri created a dangerous opportunity,” Sacchi noted.

“This is unacceptable [for Milan.]”

“And where was the marking to prevent this? I have to reiterate, the Rossoneri’s approach seemed superficial.”

He continued that “Inter won because they were a compact, focused, and humble teams,” Sacchi continued.

“They didn’t necessarily try to do too much, but they kept it simple, they had clear ideas.”
