Inter Milan are targeting two centre-backs this summer, with Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah heading the shortlist and free agent David Alaba among the profiles offered to the Nerazzurri’s management.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, citing La Gazzetta dello Sport, the recruitment push is driven by the twin departures of Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij, both of whom left on free transfers when their contracts expired on 30 June.

Chalobah remains the priority candidate. Chelsea are valuing the 25-year-old at €40 million, a figure that rules out any swift agreement, but Inter are prepared to work the negotiation patiently rather than walk away from their primary target.

Lucumi Clause and a Youth Profile Also on the Agenda

Beyond Chalobah, Alaba – who left Real Madrid at 34 as a free agent and has been offered to Inter for several weeks – is also under consideration. Inter’s centre-back search has been active across multiple fronts, and Jhon Lucumi of Bologna represents a third option: his release clause stands at €28 million until 15 July, after which Bologna will not drop below €25 million.

The Nerazzurri are not hunting for two profiles of identical type. Alongside a proven senior signing, Cristian Chivu’s side want to add a younger, development-oriented defender – a deliberate injection of sell-on value and long-term upside into what would otherwise be an experience-heavy back line.

With the Lucumi clause expiring imminently and Chelsea’s position on Chalobah firm, Inter’s next few days will clarify which route the club pursues and at what cost.
