Inter Milan icon Giuseppe Bergomi feels the club made a shrewd piece of business by selling Andre Onana to Manchester United last summer.

The Nerazzurri signed the Cameroonian on a free transfer from Ajax in the summer of 2022. He rapidly cemented himself as a starter at the expense of former club captain Samir Handanovic.

The 27-year-old’s heroics proved vital in the club’s path towards the Champions League final last season.

But after a single year at Appiano Gentile, Inter decided to cash in on Onana. They sold the goalkeeper to the Red Devils for around 55 million euros.

Nevertheless, legendary Inter defender Giuseppe Bergami considers it a good piece of business on the club’s part, especially after replacing him with Yann Sommer.

The 34-year-old completed a transfer from Bayern Munich in the summer and has now established himself as a pillar at the club.

“Sommer gives confidence to Inter. Even Inzaghi says that he is a serious person and that he trains well,” said the 59-year-old during his appearance on Sky Sport via FcInterNews.

Inter Milan Icon Giuseppe Bergomi Considers Selling Andre Onana A Good Deal For The Club

“I agree, selling Onana and replacing him with Sommer was a good deal for the club from a financial perspective.”

On Wednesday, the Swiss was the Man of the Match for the Nerazzurri in the Champions League encounter against Real Sociedad. His heroics kept Inter in the match. Lautaro Martinez eventually snatched the equalizer.

On the same evening Onana’s howler allowed Bayern Munich to take the lead against Man United at the Allianz Arena. The top clash ended 4-3 in favor of the Bavarians.
