Inter Milan defender Matteo Darmian feels that whilst it’s important for the team to manage their energy, the result is the priority away to Empoli.

The 33-year-old spoke to InterTV, via FCInterNews, ahead of this afternoon’s Serie A match at the Stadio Carlo Castellani.

This afternoon, Inter face their fifth match of the Serie A season.

So far, the Nerazzurri have enjoyed a perfect start to the campaign. Twelve points from twelve.

No other team in the Italian top flight has taken maximum points from the first four matches of the season.

And in the form of Empoli, Inter face the ideal opposition to keep that perfect start alive, at least on paper.

The Tuscans have yet to take a single point or score a single goal so far during the campaign. And in their most recent match, Roma handed Empoli a 7-0 thrashing.

There could be a temptation for Inter to treat this match without the due respect, though.

After all, the Nerazzurri are back in action in just a couple days, against Sassuolo. They may not wish to put too much into an “easier” match like this afternoon’s.

But according to Darmian, the team have made their first priority clear. They want the result and the points to take back to Milano with them.

Darmian: Three Points The First Priority For Inter Vs Empoli

Of this afternoon’s opposition, Darmian said that “They’ll be determined to play well.”

“They haven’t gotten off to a good start in the league,” he continued.

“But we know how important this match is. And we’re prepared for it, because we want to take three points.”

Darmian said that Inter want to start the match “The same way we always have at the start of this season. With great hunger and determination to take home the win.”

And of the importance of managing the team’s energy, Darmian said that “It will be important.”

“But we can’t think about holding back and saving energy.”

“We have to give everything to bring home the three points, which is our first priority,” he made clear.
