Inter Milan’s Federico Dimarco has been the most decisive defender in a top five European league in the 2023-24 season so far.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, highlight the 24-year-old’s outstanding record of goal contributions.

Dimarco got his first goal of the 2023-24 season in yesterday evening’s win over Empoli.

And it was a vitally important one. That match at the Stadio Carlo Castellani did not quite see Inter at their best, as they held onto the majority of possession but struggled to create any really telling chances.

So it was a moment of technical brilliance from Dimarco that unlocked the match.

The Italian international found the top corner of Etrit Berisha’s net with a stunning long-range volley.

That spectacular hit was certainly a contender for Dimarco’s best ever goal.

But as the Gazzetta note, the 25-year-old gives the team far more than just the occasional wondergoal.

Last season, Dimarco proved that as he was a constant and consistent attacking threat for Inter. The Italian scored several vital goals for the Nerazzurri, getting himself into attacking positions where a screamer like yesterday’s wasn’t required.

And Dimarco is also a frequent source of assists for his teammates.

That has been the case this season already. The 25-year-old has already assisted three goals for teammates, as his left foot has been as important as any other factor in the Nerazzurri’s blistering start to the campaign in front of goal.

Dimarco has shown the full range of what he can offer in attack in the early stages of the season.

From a production line of assists when the team is at its best to a moment of magic when it’s not, Dimarco has been decisive.

And as the Gazzetta notes, no defender across Europe’s top five leagues has had as many goal contributions so far.

Last season, Dimarco was named in the best eleven for the Champions League. That was on top of being one of Inter’s key men in Serie A.

And early signs are that he will not be slowing down this season.
