Inter Milan defender Francesco Acerbi admits that the team could have done a lot better against Sassuolo this evening.

Speaking to InterTV after the 2-1 defeat, via FCInterNews, the 35-year-old reacted to the match and stressed moving on quickly.

Inter’s perfect start to the season was always likely to have to come to an end sooner or later.

And at the San Siro this evening, it came to an absolutely screeching halt.

In the first half, Inter looked fairly comfortable. They found the back of the net in first half stoppage time through Denzel Dumfries.

But in the second, it was a different story.

Sassuolo looked to get at Inter and cause them problems right away. And the Nerazzurri defense creaked.

Midfielder Nedim Bajrami scored the Neroverdi’s first to begin the comeback. It was no more than Sassuolo deserved after some very positive play.

But it was a stunning long-range effort by Domenico Berard that really took the wind out of Inter’s sails.

Inter did have plenty of time to produce a response.

But in truth, they created few meaningful chances to get anything out of the match.

Inter Defender Francesco Acerbi Admits: Could’ve Done Better Vs Sassuolo

After the match, Acerbi said that “We’ve been playing a lot of matches. We’re feeling a bit tired.”

“If you come onto the pitch in the second half and concede two goals, something is wrong.”

The Inter defender admitted that “You can’t concede two goals like that.”

“You can always concede one goal, even if you hope not to. But after we scored, we stopped playing,” Acerbi admitted.

“That gives us something to think about,” he added.

“But that’s the thing. Sometimes missteps happen.”

Acerbi also said that “We know Sassuolo are a team with a lot of quality, who are great on the counterattack.”

“They were also better at managing the ball and moving the team around the pitch,” he continued.

“We did our best. But we could’ve done more, because if you lose then obviously you could do better.”

“But there’s no point complaining,” Acerbi said. “Let’s move on to the next match.”
