Simone Inzaghi has had a frank discussion with the Inter Milan squad about getting the season back on track after the setback of Wedsnesday’s defeat against Sassuolo.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inter’s momentum in Serie A was curtailed for the first time this season in their loss to Sassuolo during the week.

The Nerazzurri had led that match at halftime, but squandered their lead in a dismal second half performance.

It was the kind of result that seriously threatened to undermine everything positive that Inter had done prior.

While one bad result may not derail the entire campaign, it is certainly a psychological blow.

But as far as Inzaghi is concerned, that is not how the team should see it. The 47-year-old coach gave his message to the squad in a rousing team discussion yesterday before this evening’s match away to Salernitana.

Inzaghi Tells Inter Squad It’s Time To Get Season Back On Track

According to the Gazzetta, the emphasis of Inzaghi’s speech to the team was on everything positive prior to Wednesday’s capitulation.

Inter remain top of the Serie A table, albeit level on points with city rivals AC Milan.

And Inter still have both the most goals scored in the Italian top flight, as well as the fewest conceded.

Wednesday’s loss may have been an opportunity for Milan as well as teams like Juventus, Napoli, and Atalanta to gain a lot of ground after Inter had started to leave the rest of the pack in their wake.

But, for Inzaghi, the team is capable of immediately putting it in the rearview mirror.

The coach’s view is that a win against Salernitana would already have Inter back on track.

And then victories over Benfica in the Champions League and Bologna in the league would be necessary.

Inzaghi believes that Inter can recapture their momentum without too much difficulty. But that they have to do so by focusing only on the future and not dwelling on everything they did wrong against Sassuolo.
