Matteo Darmian is proud to be able to wear the Inter Milan shirt.

The versatile defender spoke in the matchday program ahead of this afternoon’s Serie A clash against Bologna.

Darmian is now in his fourth season as an Inter player.

The 33-year-old Italian international joined the Nerazzurri from Parma in the summer of 2020.

Darmian had already enjoyed a fairly extensive career prior to his move to Inter. The Italian had spent several seasons playing for the likes of Palermo, Torino, and Manchester United.

Darmian had spent one season with Parma, where he proved that he still had plenty left to give in Serie A.

That was enough to convince Inter to sign Darmian. He arrived at the Nerazzurri on a relatively low transfer fee, reinforcing the squad with quality, versatility, and the ability to fill in in several positions.

Darmian won the Serie A title in his first season as Inter.

The Italian played on both the right and left flank in that season.

Darmian continued to start regularly across the 2021-22 season, and then last campaign, he took on a somewhat different role in the team.

Last season, Darmian began playing regularly in the defensive line rather than at wingback. He proved very proficient, deputizing for Milan Skriniar.

Darmian started every one of Inter’s Champions League knockout matches on the right of the back three.

And this season, the former United and Torino veteran has shown few signs of slowing down.

Matteo Darmian Proud To Be At Inter Milan

“The pride I feel at wearing this shirt is always very high,” Darmian said.

“There is also a big sense of responsibility,” he continued. “Towards ourselves, the fans, the club.”

Darmian noted that “This is one of the drivers that pushes me to always work at my best. The group help me a lot in doing this, my teammates.”

“We always row in the same direction, towards a common goal.”

As far as the goals he’s scored for Inter, Darmian said that “It’s also great to assist them. In my own little away, they’re always brilliant.”

“The warmth that we get from our fans is special, and I’ll always give everything,” he said.

“I know how important it is to always be the best version of yourself, which is why I try to improve every day.”

And as far as his favourite date in an Inter shirt, Darmian named “May 23, 2021.”

“That was the day that me and my Nerazzurri teammates lifted the Scudetto. It was a memorable day, for me and for the whole Nerazzurri family.”
