Torino defender and captain Alessandro Buongiorno is aiming to be back fit in time for the Granata’s Serie A clash with Inter Milan after the international break.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the 24-year-old is fairly likely to return from injury during the break.
Buorngiorno has been out for a couple of weeks with a muscle tear.
The Italian international had to come off during his team’s Serie A loss to Lazio last month.
Buongiorno was out for the Granata’s goalless draw against Hellas Verona. And he also missed Saturday evening’s Derby della Mole against Juventus.
The Italian international’s absence proved costly in the derby.
The Bianconeri were able to get at the Torino defense in the physical battle. Particular in the second half of the match following the introduction of Arkadiusz Milik, the Granata struggled with the physicality and height in the Bianconeri side.
It was on set pieces that Torino really came unglued.
Torino Captain Alessandro Buongiorno Aiming For Return Vs Inter Milan
With Adrien Tameze deputizing in defense due to a relative dearth of options, Perr Schuurs played centrally for Torino.
Clearly, Granata coach Ivan Juric will be aiming to have Buongiorno back soon.
The 24-year-old has become a key player for Torino. Both in terms of his no-nonsense defensive style as well as knowledge of the team’s possession system.
Buongiorno has also grown in terms of his leadership role at Torino 0 his boyhood team.
The Italian rejected the advances of Atalanta during the summer to sign a new contract at Torino. He has also gained a place in Luciano Spalletti’s Italy setup.
Buongiorno is hoping to be back from his muscle problem soon.
He could even be back in time to face Inter on the other side of the international break.
