Defender Benjamin Pavard feels that the project at Inter Milan is exactly what he wants.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, the Frenchman also made clear his ambition to win the Serie A title with the Nerazzurri.

This summer, Pavard made the switch to Inter from Bayern Munich.

Reports suggested that the 27-year-old former Stuttgart defender had not been entirely happy with his role in Bavaria.

Pavard by all accounts sees himself as primarily as a defender. On the other hand, at Bayern the Frenchman frequently played as more of an attacking fullback.

So Pavard left the German champions to join Inter.

And for his part, the defender is happy with his decision. He has found a project that he feels suits him to the ground.

Benjamin Pavard Happy With Inter Milan Project – & Wants Serie A Title

Pavard explained that “The sporting project here allows me to play in the role I prefer.”

He continued that “I’ve followed Serie A for years, partly for the tactics.”

“Italy is the land of defenders, so for me the conditions were all there for me to make the decision to come here.”

As for his inspirations, Pavard said there are “Lots. From Laurent Blanc to Walter Samuel, and more generally legends like Paolo Maldini and Lilian Thuram.”

“They’re all a source of inspiration.”

The Nerazzurri defender made clear that “I’m 27 years old and I can improve and learn a lot. At Inter I can realize my potential.”

He said that “It was the right choice,” to join Inter.

“Everyone gave me a great welcome, from Zanetti to the coaching staff. It’s a great dressing room atmosphere.”

“After seven years in Germany I wanted a new challenge, new motivations,” he added.

He said that “I came here to put the second star on this shirt, and to give back to the fans for the love they’ve given me even before I signed.”

“The numerous messages I received on social media.”

“They deserve the top trophies,” Pavard said of the Inter supporters.

“But there’s no shortage of rivals,” he noted. “Milan, Napoli, Juventus, Lazio, Fiorentina. But the season is long.”

Praise For Simone Inzaghi & Marcus Thuram

Pavard also opened up about what he’s gotten out of his relationship with Inter coach Simone Inzaghi.

“Inzaghi is a leader,” he said. “A great motivator both in matches and in training.”

He called the 47-year-old “A great coach who doesn’t underestimate any team.”

“An example of what he asks of me that’s different,” Pavard continued of his Nerazzurri coach. “He wants me to support the right-wingback, and then advance into space, which I didn’t do it at Bayern where they told me to stay back, especially in a back three.”

Pavard also spoke of another summer arrival at Inter, his French international teammate Marcus Thuram.

“He integrated right away because the club creates the ideal conditions for us to feel at ease,” he said.

“I’m very happy for him,” Pavard said of Thuram. “He’s a special guy. I hope he keeps going like this, and I have a lot of respect for his father.”
