French defender Benjamin Pavard is very happy to be at the “legendary” Inter Milan after his summer move from Bayern Munich.

Speaking to French broadcaster Canal+, via FCInterNews, the 27-year-old also stressed that he only wants to play at centre-back.

Pavard joined Inter during the last couple of days of the summer transfer window.

The Nerazzurri had been courting the Frenchman for some time. The transfer links go back at least as far as January of this year.

And eventually, Inter got their man.

The Nerazzurri signed Pavard as a long-term replacement for Milan Skriniar in defense.

And for the player himself, the move proved to be an important.

By all accounts, Pavard wanted a new and different adventure after four years at Bayern.

And the defender is entirely happy with his decision. Both on the pitch and in terms of what playing for Inter represents, Pavard feels that he made the right choice coming to Inter.

Benjamin Pavard: Inter Milan A “Legendary” Club, San Siro “Exceptional”

Pavard noted that prior to his summer move, “I had been in Germany for a long time. I spent three years at Stuttgart and then four at Bayern, where I won everything and played with some world-class player.”

“I grew as a player there, but above all as a man,” Pavard said of his time in Bavaria.

“But the time had come for a change. For me to discover a new country and a new culture.”

“I know that Bayern has given me a lot,” the 27-year-old went on.

“Tt’s thanks to them that I am the player I am now, as well as thanks to my French teammates.”

“But Inter is a legendary club,” he noted. ‘And last season they were in the Champions League final.”

Asked if the presence of the French contingent of Olivier Giroud, Theo Hernanez, and Mike Maignan at AC Milan influenced his decision, Pavard replied “Not really, no.”

“It’s true that Olivier and Theo spoke to me about Italy,” he added. “About the warmth of the fans, who are crazy about football.”

“And honestly I wasn’t disappointed,” the 27-year-old continued.

“When I first experienced the atmosphere at San Siro, it was clear that it was something exceptional.”

“It’s an incredible pleasure to play here,” Pavard said.

Pavard On His Preferred Position

The former Bayern defender also gave his thoughts on his strongest position.

Pavard said his priority in the summer was “Playing central defender. Where I had played at Bayern first with Nagelsmann and then with Tuchel in a back three.”

“I love being the first player to start the attack, that’s something I’m happy doing. I think my body language shows that as well.”

As far as whether he could play as a wingback as well, Pavard replied “I haven’t asked the coach yet. But I play in a back three”

“I’ve played as a [wingback] before, so we’ll see,” the defender added.

“But my place is in central defense.”
