Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez could make way for Lionel Messi for the Argentina lineup in Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier against Peru.

This according to Argentine broadcaster TyC Sports, via FCInterNews. The broadcaster anticipate that Julian Alvarez will start one way or the other, and that either Messi or Martinez will start alongside him.

Argentina have already begun their international break.

The Albiceleste beat Paraguay by a 1-0 scoreline in their first World Cup qualifier of the break.

Inter captain Martinez started that match, as did Manchester City’s Alvarez.

The pair started as part of a kind of front three alongside Fiorentina winger Nico Gonzalez

On Tuesday, then, the Albiceleste will be in action again. They will take on Peru in their second match of the break.

Lautaro Martinez Could Drop Out For Lionel Messi In Argentina Vs Peru Clash

Inter striker Lautaro Martinez is certainly one of the first names on the team sheet for his club side.

The 26-year-old has become the Nerazzurri’s captain. He inherited the armband from Samir Handanovic during the summer.

And Martinez has already scored an eye-watering eleven goals for Inter at the start of the current season.

The Argentine has been the Nerazzurri’s top scorer in each of the past two seasons as well.

However, for Argentina Martinez is not necessarily an automatic starter.

Former River Plate striker Alvarez has put the Nerazzurri captain’s place under threat.

Martinez had gone into the World Cup in Qatar last winter as the first-choice starter for Argentine.

However, some poor performance from the Inter striker gave the chance to Alvarez to take his place in the starting eleven.

And once he had the starting place at the tournament, the Manchester City man did not let go.

According to TyC, Alvarez will start on Tuesday one way or another. It’s therefore down to Martinez or Messi to partner him – if the latter plays, the former will drop out of the starting eleven.
