Inter Milan are right on the verge of extending the contract of wingback Federico Dimarco until the end of June 2028.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

At the moment, Dimarco’s contract with Inter runs until the end of June 2026.

The Italian international signed his most recent extension in the fall of 2021.

But in the two or so years that have elapsed since then, Dimarco’s standing in the team has changed significantly.

When the Italian signed his most recent extension, he was not necessarily a regular starter for Inter.

At that time Dimarco was more of a utility player, with his versatility allowing him to deputize for both Ivan Perisic and Alessandro Bastoni. However, he did not make either the left-wingback or left centre-back role his own.

But last season that changed.

Dimarco stepped up following the departure of Perisic.

A string of outstanding performances from the Italian international were enough for him to put his stamp on the spot on the left flank of Inter’s starting eleven.

Dimarco did so ahead of Robin Gosens, who left in the summer. And he has remained first-choice, even despite the good form of summer arrival Carlos Augusto.

Inter One Step From Extending Contract Of Federico Dimarco

According to the Gazzetta, the talks have reached a conclusion.

Dimarco has not yet put pen to paper on a new contract with Inter. But that is just a matter of a formality, and then the official announcement will come.

The Gazzetta notes that Dimarco’s status as a youth academy graduate and lifelong Inter fan has certainly expedited the talks.

And as far as the duration of a new contract, the 25-year-old will add two years onto his current deal. Dimarco will sign until the end of June 2028.

And in terms of wages, there will naturally be a big increase from the €1.8 million net per season which Dimarco currently earns, to reflect his growth.

The Gazzetta report that in the 2024-25 season, Dimarco will earn €3.5 million net. Then over the remaining three seasons of his deal, that will rise to €4 million net including add-ons.
